As a hypnotherapist specialising in hypnotherapy for children, I’ve worked with many young clients and understand how heart-wrenching it is to see your child struggle. You’re not alone. Recently, I helped a mum whose daughter’s anxiety escalated into a school phobia. Their journey inspired me to share how hypnotherapy for children offers a gentle, effective path to healing.
Why Choose Hypnotherapy for Children?
I know that as a parent you are seeking the best possible support for your child. Often parents are looking for therapists who work with children specifically. The great news is that hypnotherapy can be beneficial for a wide range of issues children face, from their thought patterns to physical behaviours.
Here are some of the areas where hypnotherapy for children can help:
- Addictions: Including mobile phones, devices, and social media.
- Emotional Issues: Such as anger, anxiety, and stress.
- Bedwetting: (Enuresis)
- Confidence: Building self-esteem.
- Family Issues: Such as parental separation and divorce.
- Eating: Supporting children with fussy eating.
- Grief and Loss: Helping children process these difficulties.
- Obsessive Compulsive Disorder: (OCD)
- Fears and Phobias: Addressing specific fears.
- Trauma: Supporting children to overcome traumatic experiences.
How Hypnotherapy for Children Works?
The first step is to schedule a free 15-minute telephone call to discuss your child’s needs and how I can help. After that we arrange a 90-minute consultation session. During this session, it’s beneficial for a parent to be present to provide information, however sometimes older children may be more open without a parent being present. This often allows them to discuss their concerns more freely.
During the consultation, we will look into the root cause of the issue, talking about school, friends, and other significant people, as well as any difficulties your child has experienced.
We will also complete an anxiety and depression questionnaire, and we will assess whether your child is a highly sensitive person (HSP). Afterwards I will send you helpful information about HSP. The consultation session often helps children put things into perspective and understand why they have been feeling the way they have.
After the Consultation Session: What Next?
After the consultation, we start the hypnosis sessions which usually last 30-40 minutes. I will always advise children to cut down on caffeine and sugar on the days they have a hypnosis session, to help them relax. The sessions are recorded and the recording is shared, so your child can play it to reinforce the hypnotherapy and self-help. I’ve found children relax more easily knowing they have a recording. They can even use the recordings in the future if other difficulties arise.
Typically after 2-4 sessions of hypnosis, I will offer to teach your child Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT). This is a fantastic tool to help them further process their emotions and release any emotional blocks.
The Importance of Early Intervention
It is so important that children receive help as soon as possible, to support their overall development. The earlier we address these difficulties, the easier their journey will be and the more they will be able to enjoy life. As someone who experienced a challenging childhood, I can relate to children who struggle, and I know when difficulties are not addressed they can persist for years and affect many areas of their life.
A Positive Journey
One of the best things about working with children is seeing them achieve positive change and become happier. Your child will know when hypnotherapy is no longer needed and I am always pleased when a family completes the journey, so they can enjoy life more fully.
